Magic Breakfast receives Big Society Award
(Magic Breakfast Founder Carmel McConnell (right), with Tim Loughton MP,Headteacher Sarah Millard and pupils from the breakfast club at Ingram road Primary School)

On Wednesday 21st September, Magic Breakfast attended Ingram Road Primary School in Leeds to receive the Number 10 Big Society Award. The award was presented to Magic Breakfast by Education Minister Tim Loughton MP during Ingram Road Primary School's Breakfast Club.

Every day, together with a strong network of corporate partners, individuals and schools, Magic Breakfast is giving over 6000 children in 200 primary schools the best start to the day and the right fuel for learning. Magic Breakfast founder, Carmel McConnell said:

"We are delighted to win the Prime Ministers Big Society Award, and warmly invite more business partnerships to help us provide the best educational start to life for school children in this country”

The Number 10 Big Society Award were set up to recognise the achievements of individuals and organisations who promote social action and empower local communities.

Congratulating Magic Breakfast on the award, the Prime Minister David Cameron said:

“Getting the best start in life is important for a child’s future and that start can begin quite literally, even before the school day, with a healthy breakfast.

By supporting parents and schools to ensure children kick the day off in the right way, ready to learn and able to concentrate, Magic Breakfast is playing an important part in this.

It’s a great example of the Big Society, with a charity, businesses, schools, teachers and parents all working together to support their community and its future.

Congratulations to Magic Breakfast on such an innovative scheme and to all the businesses, volunteers, schools and parents involved.”

Alan Mak, Trustee of Magic Breakfast said:

“We are delighted to be recognised by the Prime Minister. Our partnerships with schools, parents, businesses and communities show the Big Society does work, and all the trustees are hugely proud of Carmel and the team. This Award will inspire us as we continue the fight against child hunger in the UK.”

Cooks & Kids, a recipe book with a difference!

Launching this October, Cooks & Kids, a recipe book with a difference!

Created by the NFA, children were asked to dream up their favourite food, and take over the kitchen, whilst celebrity chefs were to make this come true. The book is full of fantastic recipes that are easy for children to join in with, beautifully photographed and illustrated.

All the celebrity chefs gave their time for free, and all royalties are generously being donated to Magic Breakfast. The charity was chosen after consultation within the NFA community – naturally we were delighted and very excited. All money raised will help us provide food to UK primary school children who arrive too hungry or malnourished to learn.
