Our Chief Executive, Lindsey MacDonald, joined the Evidence in Action podcast to talk about breakfast clubs.
Evidence into Action is a podcast from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF). They welcome experts in the field of education, including researchers, teachers and school leaders. Their mission is to tackle the most important educational topics and offer evidence-based ideas to reflect on and, hopefully, be able to put into action.
One of the key things we have been advocating for consistently is a mixed-model approach. A breakfast club is an amazing model – you see the opportunity for children to come in, for parents to drop them off a bit earlier and take some of the pressure and rush off the school day, particularly important for single-parent families, families with multiple children, and children with SEND. But there are also children and young people whereby arriving earlier to school is an extra challenge and barrier. We encourage schools to also think about different models that can flex and accommodate their needs.
