The Scottish Government knows breakfast is vital for children’s health and learning—now they must act, because breakfast can’t wait and neither can Scotland’s children.

Four years ago, the Scottish Government promised free school breakfasts to tackle morning hunger, but not a single child has seen that promise fulfilled.

Every morning, thousands of children and young people in Scotland face the reality of starting their school day too hungry to learn.

Hunger is holding Scotland’s children back. When a child is hungry, they can’t concentrate, they can’t learn, and they can’t grow. A simple school breakfast could transform their day, giving them the fuel they need to succeed.

The First Minister has the power to make this promise a reality. By delivering free breakfasts to every primary and special school pupil, we can end morning hunger and give every child a chance to thrive.

The announcement of the government’s breakfast pilot – Bright Start Breakfastsrepresents a shift from the past, where promises of free school breakfasts have gone unfulfilled. Bright Start Breakfasts is just that, a bright start.

For a bright future this policy must be the first step on the road to full implementation of universal, free school breakfast provision in Scotland.

Take action!

Join the Breakfast Can’t Wait campaign to ensure every child in Scotland gets a free school breakfast. We need universal provision to end morning hunger and help all children thrive.

Together, we can make this a reality.
