Thousands of us are coming together to raise the alarm to get politicians to act. Will you join us?
Thank you for all of your support in our Breakfast Powers Opportunity campaign so far. Our petition has gained great traction, but we can take it even further in these final days leading up to the budget announcement.
While we think it is a fantastic start that the Government has committed to breakfast clubs in all primary schools, we are really worried that tens of thousands of secondary school pupils in disadvantaged communities will lose access to the free breakfasts they currently receive when the National School Breakfast Programme (NSBP) expires in July 2025.
Let’s reach the Chancellor more directly now by commenting on Rachel Reeves Instagram post, urging her to not leave secondary pupils behind.
Top tips!
You don’t need to be an expert or spokesperson but your voice matters. Need guidance when commenting on the Chancellor’s Instagram post?
- Be positive and be polite. The government is doing lots already, we just need to make sure older pupils aren’t forgotten.
- Keep your comment short. Every comment helps, so don’t worry, you don’t need to share a long comment.
- Share why this policy matters to you. Whether you’re a teacher, parent, family member, pupil or supporter, your unique point of view is powerful.
What should I say?
Hi – please consider the secondary students who risk losing access to the National School Breakfast in the budget. The announcement for breakfast clubs in primary schools is great, but hunger doesn’t stop when you turn 11. Please extend funding for secondary schools.
Hi – Nutritious breakfasts are crucial for learning and development at all ages, not just for primary students. Don’t leave secondary students behind: please support them in this budget.
Hi – Don’t let secondary students fall behind in this budget. Thousands of pupils in disadvantaged areas face persistent hunger and rely on free breakfast. They need our support as well as primary pupils.
